Why Do I Need a Diversity and Inclusion Learning Consultant?

I will answer that question with a question; would you call a plumber to fix your roof?

The most obvious answer would be “no.” The reason is that the plumbing and roofing fields require specialized skills. The same is true when it comes to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) training development. Many institutional DEI initiatives fail because non-experts are positioned in DEI leadership roles. Institutions often fail to understand the importance of approaching DEI work from the same perspective as any other discipline. Just as a plumber is ill-equipped to fix your roof, not everyone is equipped to address your institutional DEI needs.

As a Diversity and Inclusion Learning consultant, I have experience leading institutional DEI initiatives and have created and facilitated customized institutional DEI training programs. I bring a deep and rich understanding of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion principles. I have over twenty years of instructional design experience and possess the educational expertise to create engaging learning experiences for clients. Through in-depth analysis and pedagogically driven design approaches, I will work with you to develop company-specific training programs and materials. If needed, I can also assist with training facilitation.

Why Is DEI Training Important?

Navigating diversity, equity, and inclusion issues can prove difficult for organizations. Many companies understand that world demographics are shifting. To meet the challenges of this new culturally and ethnically diverse corporate environment, businesses must begin to make structural changes, including shifting institutional culture to one of acceptance and inclusion. These institutional reflections and cultural shifts are necessary for institutional sustainability. This new DEI mandate should not be viewed begrudgingly but rather it can be seen as a positive opportunity to increase institutional potential.

As reported in the January 2018 issue of the Deloitte Review, companies that promote inclusive cultural environments are:

  • 2x as likely to meet or exceed their financial goals

  • 3x as likely to be high-performing

  • 6x more likely to be adaptable and innovative

  • 8x more likely to report better organizational outcomes
